Mother's Day can be kind of a complicated weekend, honestly, at church.

Because on one hand, we want to really celebrate moms,

and we want it to be a very joyful weekend.

And yet, on the other hand, what we also know is that there are a lot of moms and people with moms that are struggling and hurting. The video we showed kind of captured that.

When I first watched that video, I thought, okay, that's really heavy.

That's a really heavy Mother's Day video.

And yet, what I just couldn't get away from when I watched that video is it really reflects

what Scripture does when it talks to us about moms.

If you read through Genesis, which is what we're studying in church right now, what you find

in the book of Genesis and really throughout

the whole of Scripture is that it's hard and it's complicated and messy. And you read about these

women in Scripture who are not like these picture perfect women. Instead, you find them in one chapter

doubting and in one chapter having faith and one chapter

they're laughing and another, they're crying and it can be messy.

And yet, God keeps showing up within the story.

And so if you just look through some of the Old Testament, I mean, I can give you a lot of examples,

but Eve, the very first mother in human history, watches as one son murders another.

There's Leah who spent her entire marriage knowing that she was not the wife her husband wanted,

and she's trying to fix her marriage by having children.
