Yes, it was me, Judy, and a group of women I'd never met before.

And I discovered that everyone goes to onsons in Japan, which meant that I had to get naked with a bunch of women I'd never met before.

No, it really is. That's what I'm telling everyone.

But it was, it was, yeah, it was incredible.

And I'm no hiker and seeing that part of Japan as my introduction to that country was amazing and surreal and weird and I ate weird

food in the mountains and hiked with a mountain priestess and met free divers down on the coast and

yeah it was crazy everyone will be in and dated with stories that I plan to write on it perfect and

you were Meredith you were in Austin?

I was in Austin. I was back in Texas. My homeland. Not on a very exciting trip. I was there for a

friend's birthday, ate so much barbecue, ate Japanese barbecue at Lolly and my favorite restaurant

in Austin. Kumori Tatuya, shout out.

So for our latest episode, we're chatting with award-winning journalist and author Kim Barker about life as a foreign correspondent.

From 2004 to 2009, Kim was South Asia Bureau Chief for the Chicago Tribune,

based out of Delhi and Islamabad, and her book, The Taliban Shuffle Strange Days in Afghanistan and Pakistan, was turned into

the 2016 movie, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, starring Tina Fey.

And nowadays, she's back in the US with us as Metro Reporter for The New York Times.
