under Justin Trudeau's liberal government,

which had been riding high in the polls until being laid low by a series of scandals over the last

In Monday's election, the liberals narrowly lost the popular vote to Andrew Sheer's opposition

conservatives. But thanks to the structure of Canada's parliamentary system, Trudeau's liberals

were able to squeak out a victory, though their former strong majority position was reduced to a minority government.

And Trudeau now will have to rely on support from smaller parties, such as the left-of- center new Democratic Party and the separatist Block
