This was election week for Canadians,

a chance for voters to render judgment on four years

under Justin Trudeau's liberal government,

which had been riding high in the polls until being laid low by a series of scandals over the last

year.

In Monday's election, the liberals narrowly lost the popular vote to Andrew Sheer's opposition

conservatives. But thanks to the structure of Canada's parliamentary system, Trudeau's liberals

were able to squeak out a victory, though their former strong majority position was reduced to a minority government.

And Trudeau now will have to rely on support from smaller parties, such as the left-of- center new Democratic Party and the separatist Block

Kibaguah. Joining me to discuss the election result is veteran Canadian

pundit David Fromm. Having been based in Washington over the last two decades, he's become best known primarily for his American political commentary.

But as his old Canadian friends and colleagues can attest, he still maintains a keen interest in Canadian affairs in part through his sister
