Well, hello there. My name is Morgan Harper-Nichols. I'm an artist and a writer, and this is a space where I share words that I hope can make a little room for you to slow down and take a few deep breaths as you prepare for whatever lies ahead. Thanks for being here today. And now on to today's episode. So far this week, I've been talking about

0:29.6

journaling. And I wanted to take a moment to read a piece that I wrote that I actually mentioned

0:35.6

yesterday called A Case for Journaling.

0:38.9

A Case for Journaling.

0:40.6

There are so many reasons not to journal the busyness of life, feeling like you don't have anything to write about,

0:48.3

or feeling as if the days are running together and there's not much to say.

0:53.0

And yet, a journal binds together a series of

0:57.0

blank pages that while at times intimidating, it also creates space, where even if you simply fill

1:05.4

the page with the phrase, I have nothing to say over and over again, as long as you have this journal.

1:13.7

This space now serves as proof that for all of the busyness of life and all of life's

1:20.6

questions, somewhere in time you manage to be present to the moment. You gave yourself permission to sit with pen and page,

1:31.0

to practice the art of articulating what you have to say.

1:35.5

And if all this journal does is serve as a reminder

1:39.3

to return to a practice of gratitude and simply being present over and over again, it matters.

1:49.0

I share this piece with you today here in the early days of October because I want to give you

1:56.4

some journaling prompts that you can carry with you right here at the beginning of this month and even

2:04.3

beyond the beginning of this month. Because as I mentioned on yesterday's episode, journaling is a

2:11.0

practice that has helped me a lot and many, many others really just cultivate a sense of awareness about what's going on in our lives

2:20.0

and the present and also just making peace with the past, gathering wisdom for the past, and of course

2:26.3

preparing for what's to come. So here are five journaling prompts for the month of October.

2:33.1

Number one, what did September teach you? What did

2:39.2

September teach you? Your answer to this question can be as broad or specific as you like.
