It's not just that he was released,

though that is in fact what happened.

The context is crucial here.

So Brown County prosecutors stated

that they did not at the moment believe

they have sufficient evidence to bring charges.

And the context here, beyond that is, in Wisconsin, there are rules mandating that police officers

when they have probable cause to believe that a suspect in this case committed domestic violence.

They are required, absent some special circumstances, to make an arrest.

And that burden of proof, that gap is huge. Like, it is essentially the difference between a

criminal case and a civil case, where in a civil case, you have to prove the preponderance
