Today on Roon Soup, I am very pleased to be speaking to author, teacher and

magician Josephine McCarthy. Josephine welcome to the show. Thank you for

having me. Oh well the pleasure is definitely all mine.

And I'm going to begin with traditional question number one.

Josephine, were you a weird kid?

Oh, every magician's a weird kid.

I was a weird kid. I was a weird kid, I was a horrible child as far as adults were concerned.

Both just being eccentric, having odd things happening around me like many other

magicians.

That's never stopped, I'm still a weird kid.

Yeah. I've never stopped. I'm still a weird kid. I've never grown up. I don't know. It's difficult to quantify as to, you know, what is inherent to you as a child when you're looking back and what is

influence from what's around you and the people around you because my mother

used to talk to everything so I talked to everything. And she used to have, although she was a highly intelligent mathematician,

she had very interesting fairy tale ways of explaining things to kids.

So you end up living in a bit of a dream world.

You know, I'd talk, you know, she'd say talk to the bees, if you talk to the bees, they'll be really nice to you. So I'd talk to the bees, I talked to the birds. I talked to the slugs and

tell them to fuck off. But I was looking back very energetically sensitive to stuff. I'd be very strongly affected by things.

So I tended to keep out of the way of a lot of the things that kids tended to get involved in.
