Summary

Welcome to another episode with Dr. John Turner as we cover his new book ā€œJoseph Smith: The Rise and Fall of an American Prophet.ā€ Today we are covering chapter thirteen titled ā€œZion is Fledā€ that covers 1833-1834 in Kirtland, Ohio.

We answer important questions like: What is the importance of scriptures and what does that mean for this religious movement? Is Joseph Smith credible as a prophet, seer, and revelator? Even the Mormon church today is calling the Book of Mormon a ā€œrevelationā€ not a translation. Is the Book of Mormon a work of genius or is it from God?

We also cover topics such as the School of the Prophets, how the Word of Wisdom came to be and Joseph Smith’s vision of the grand Zion Community in Independence, Missouri.

Please purchase the book here.

To support this series please donate here. One half of all donations will go to Dr. Turner for as long as he is participating in the series.

John G. Turner.

0:25.7

So just really quickly, I have some really good news.

0:28.4

We're 13 episodes in, and we've been trying to raise sufficient funds to be able to fund

0:34.5

my time and John's time all the way through this series and also the production

0:39.2

work that that happens behind the scenes and I have really good news. The good news is, is that

0:44.7

thanks to one very large, generous donor, I think we're fully funded through the end of this book,

0:51.7

which is, I guess, the epilogue, which is, I guess, technically 32 episodes.

0:56.6

So we're funded. So thank you to that one very generous donor that made this possible.

1:02.0

In addition to thank you to all the donors who have independently contributed to make this

1:07.3

possible. Now, I talked to John about this. We are still welcoming your donations,

1:12.8

number one, because the truth is this isn't fully funded. We have production costs behind the scenes

1:17.9

that the OSF is just up until now funding ourselves. So anyway, and also there's possible

1:25.3

future episodes that John and I might consider doing beyond the 32 episodes, depending on his availability and demand and interest and other sorts of things.

1:37.3

So if you want to continue supporting this collaboration, we welcome it.

1:42.4

You just go to donorbox.org slash Joseph Smith.
