I'm Charlie Gibson. My name comes second. And this is the bookcase with

It is, I know, the highlight of your week as our new podcast is out and we have, I think, another

really good summer read. If you have not read Joseph Cannon and you like spy novels, then you really have been missing

out. I think he's an incredible novelist. His books are period fiction. So there's a lot of

historical fiction. You know, you could put them in the historical fiction section of your

bookstore and I'd feel comfortable. But I think of them also as spy novels. But yet when you say

spy novel,

you know, I have a tendency to go, oh, so it's sort of shallow. You know, the women look like this

and the boat chases are like this and, you know, and everybody looks like this. But these books,

I think, have real depth to them. He examines betrayal and, you know, can you run away from your past? Is that even possible? By the way,

the book is called Shanghai. The new book is called Shanghai. I'm glad you threw that in as an afterthought.
