Thank you. Once upon a time, Once upon a time, there was an old castle, which lay in the centre of a thick forest,

and was home to an old woman who was a witch.

She lived all alone in her castle and in the daylight hours she would turn herself into a cat

or an owl. And when darkness fell, she would return to her human shape. She hunted for food and cooked it herself in a large cauldron over the fire.

If any man dared come within 100 yards of the castle,

they would be frozen in place,

until the old witch saw fit to set him free.

But whenever a fair maiden would approach, the old witch would turn her into a bird

and lock her in a wicker cage. She kept the cages in the castle.

There were now seven thousand cages of rare and beautiful birds in the witch's dwelling.

Now there was once a fair maiden called Jorinda, and she was betrothed to a handsome young man called Jorindel.

Their wedding was not far off, and the town was all a buzz about it.

How lovely it will be to have such a celebration!

The couple's greatest happiness was spending the days together.
