Hello and welcome to the fully charged show podcast now I first met this wonderful

guest we've got today a few years ago in Cheltenham Town in the United Kingdom, a very delightful town, Cheltenham Spa, and he is just

a charming chap. His name is Jonathan Poret and he was in fact a

pretty much a founding member of Friends of the Earth. He was the Director of Friends of

the Earth in the 1990s, I believe. He was a member of the Green

Party since the 1970s. He's a teacher, a traveler. He's planted trees in Australia, but that was back in the,

I don't know, 1970s I suppose.

He was at the Rio, Rio de Janeiro Earth Summit in 1992 and that was clearly a pivotal point in his life.

So he has been a lifelong campaigner with regards to the environment and the future of, well certainly the energy industry is very

critically important in that, but he recently published an amazing book which I'm very proud to say I've now read I read

half of it before we spoke called Hope in Hell and it is somehow it really resonated

with me and I think with fully charged in this fact that

we're very aware that we're facing and you know it's a overused term this year

but an unprecedented crisis in terms of the human race

over the last 10,000 years of the damage we've done to the very small planet we live

on. The planet, I always want to say this, the planet is fine.

The planet doesn't give a tuppany toss about us. It's us and many other animals that are in trouble.

Planet will still be here in a million years time. It won't matter at all.

It will have gone, do you remember that little itch we had a million years ago?

They were a pain.

So, you know, it's very important that we try and maintain

a little bit more balance in the way that we live on this planet. That's long been my hope. And what
