My name is Jake Tere.

My name is Jake Kettiri. I am a policy associate for the Renew Democracy Initiative and a

rider for the ballpark. I recently published an article for persuasion titled

Opting Out of Wighteness. The article is informed by

my experience as an immigrant from Iran and my studying the history of non-white

immigration to the United States. As I write the first non-white immigrants to America were Germans.

The Irish, Jews, Italians, and Middle Easterners followed.

They all fought to be counted as white, and they all eventually were accepted as white.

Now, for the first time, white groups are trying to be categorized as non-white

because of the benefits that come with not being white.

In my essay, I argue that the concept of skin color is subjective and quite

silly and our objective should be doing away with it and rediscover the wisdom of being

colorblind when it comes to race. I hope that you read and enjoy

my essay.
