If I were to ask you today, what is the book of Jonah about?

Most people would say it's about Jonah and the what?

The whale, right?

In fact, the Bible doesn't say it was a whale.

It says it was a great fish to start with.

But I want to tell you today that this book is not about Jonah and the fish.

No, this book is about Jonah and God.

You see, Jonah is mentioned 18 times in this little book.

The fish is only mentioned four times, but God, God has mentioned 31 times in the book of Jonah. Listen to how the book begins. Jonah 1, verse 1. Now, the word of the Lord came

to Jonah, the son of Amatai saying, arise, go to Nineveh of that great city and cry against it,

for their wickedness is come up before me.

But Jonah rose up to flee into Tarsus from the presence of the Lord.

And went down to Joppa, and he found a ship going to Tarsus.

So he paid the fare thereof and went down into it to go with them under Tarshish's from the presence of the Lord.

Do you hear the expression?

It's given twice in the opening verses.

It is the presence of the Lord.
