Summary

Jon Hamm was so good on television’s Mad Men that some people still associate him with the enigmatic character he played, Don Draper. But he’s shown his versatility in a number of interesting films (like the new release Beirut) and revealed his flair for comedy, even hosting Saturday Night Live. He’s fun to talk to, as Leonard and Jessie can confirm—serious when the subject demands it and gloriously goofy when the mood strikes him. In other words, a perfect guest.

I was so disappointed, John.

0:22.3

Well, they made me do that because having worked for AMC for so long, on Madman. Oh, the other AMC.

0:27.6

Gremlin. Okay. Well, this is John Hamm. Hi, guys. And shouldn't it be Maltons on movies? I mean, there's two of you.

We've been, we've been asked about that. I know, I know. It's a...

Is the plural of Malton, Malton? I mean, I think so. Okay, fine.

0:46.9

That's... I'm glad with it. I just wanted to clear it up. So are people now accustomed to the fact that you are funny?

0:59.2

I think they're grudgingly accepting of it. I do, you know, it's funny that we're doing this here at Meltdown. I was saying the last time I was in this actual podcast space, the upstairs room

at Meltdown was doing Pete Holmes' podcast. And I've been around the comedy community in LA

since I got here, really. Back in the early 90s, when I arrived on the scene, you know, it was

when Sarah Silverman and Patton Oswald and Zach Alfenakis and

Paul F. Tompkins and all these guys were getting their starts. And Aisha D. was doing shows at Largo

that were $5 to get into. And the reason it was kind of the thing I liked doing was because

1:39.2

it was inexpensive. And you could go and you could have a fun night for 10 bucks. And there's still a version of that in LA. I mean, most, you know, it's that meltdown here at UCB or wherever, you know, wherever you want to go. And it's, it's always just been a thing that I've, I've kind of gravitated towards. And I guess maybe I got a sense of humor sort of via, you know, proximity, I guess.

Like a contact high?

2:06.3

A contact high, exactly.

2:07.7

So I've always just enjoyed it.
