Hey server listeners, I recently sent out a survey asking for you all to submit your questions to

0:04.3

me regarding the Johnny Depp Amber herd trial. So I thought I would answer your questions today.

0:09.6

I usually do this whenever I do a deep dive and at the final phase I will ask for questions and I

0:16.2

will answer them to the best of my ability. And I do consider the trial to be kind of a deep dive.

0:21.6

I mean, I yammered for 50 hours on the internet. So if that doesn't constitute a deep dive,

0:26.3

I don't know what does. I also asked for y'all to tell me if you thought the verdict was fair or

0:33.7

not, about 75% believe that the trial verdict was fair or sort of fair. And 10% said no, it was not

0:42.4

fair and 14% said they don't know if it's fair. All right, so I thought I would start with the

0:48.0

questions that were submitted to the non-patrion link. And then I thought I would make the

0:53.2

Patreon link questions for patrons only kind of make sense, but I'll do that later.

0:57.2

So this first question is from Ellie from Victoria, Canada. Throughout the entire trial,

1:02.0

I was often frustrated by my peers black and white opinions on the trial rather than considering

1:06.9

all the evidence. Would you consider this kind of a confirmation bias or is there another

1:12.4

psych term that fits this type of thinking in criminality or civil cases end of question? Yeah,

1:19.4

definitely confirmation bias is a part of it. I'm going to go through a bunch of other cognitive

1:24.4

biases. I thought it'd be a good way to kind of start off this episode. So confirmation bias

1:29.6

means that we tend to regard information that confirms our belief system as true and valid,

1:38.7

and when we have information that contradicts our belief system or our conclusions or our initial

1:44.4

conclusions or our actual reactions, we tend to disregard it. So clearly that was happening.

1:50.0

All of us are doing that. I was doing that. You were doing that. We can't get away from that.

1:54.4

So if you came to a conclusion at some point or even before the trial began, an information came

2:00.8

in that confirmed your conclusion, then you would say, ah, for example, if you came in pro-amber heard,
