Hey, my friends, it's Matt. This is the 10-minute Bible Hour podcast, and this is our third and final

0:06.4

sidetrack day into the book of Isaiah. John the Baptist sent us down this road. He was getting

0:14.1

pestered about who he is. Like, what prophecy are you fulfilling? And he pointed the people who

0:19.4

wondered this toward Isaiah with a verbal hint he quoted

0:22.3

something from Isaiah chapter 40 specifically so I thought well we probably shouldn't blow right

0:29.5

past that if John the Baptist was being asked how this all fits together with the Jesus thing

0:34.6

with the story and all of that stuff and he's like well if you want to you want to know, go look at Isaiah, hint, hint. Then we should probably take the hint and go look at Isaiah. So we did that a bunch two days ago. We did that a bunch more last time around. And today we'll finish looking at some of the big, important prophecies about Jesus, the Messiah that occur in the book of Isaiah, and then we'll take stock of it all,

0:55.4

and then we'll move forward in the text of John next time around.

0:58.0

Okay, I'm going to have Jeff play some music,

0:59.9

and we're going to pick up right where we left on.

1:21.4

Okay. So in Isaiah 9, we get all that, you know, super Christmas-y stuff about a child is born,

1:27.3

a son is given, wonderful counselor, mighty God, and all of this stuff, but he's going to reign on the throne of David forever,

1:28.7

but a question that people would have had back then is, well, how can he reign on the throne of

1:32.8

David? The throne is gone. It's in ruin. It's defeated. But then you turn the page again,

1:38.3

one page over. Here's another prediction of the future, not a Tony Romo pattern recognition

1:43.4

prediction, but a God-given revelation

1:45.9

of what God is doing redemptively. And it goes like this, Isaiah 11-1, a shoot will come up from the

1:52.0

stump of Jesse, from his roots, a branch will bear fruit, the spirit of the Lord will rest on him,

1:57.4

the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and of power, the spirit

2:01.9

of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord, and he will delight in the fear of the Lord. He will not judge

2:07.5

by what he sees with his eyes or decide by what he hears with his ears, but with righteousness.

2:12.1

He will judge the needy with justice. He will give decisions for the poor of the earth.
