0:00.0	Hey, everybody, it's Matt. This is the 10-minute Bible Hour podcast, and this is John the Baptist
0:22.1	week. And I got to say, boy, did we not make the progress I had hoped to make yesterday. I was going to
0:28.5	cover like 10 verses about John the Baptist's background and birth story. And we got one verse,
0:35.3	which is on brand for this program.
0:38.4	That's okay.
0:39.3	But really, this week, we got to get a sense of who John the Baptist is because John
0:44.7	the evangelist who wrote the gospel of John thinks John the Baptist is a real big deal.
0:49.6	He's the first named human character in the gospel of John. And John the Baptist story is interwoven
0:57.9	with the background prologue, all of the big setup for the significance of Jesus.
1:05.8	You know, we get four movements in the opening prologue. Jesus is God. Jesus is the Creator, Jesus is the light, the revelation
1:15.3	of God, Jesus is God in the flesh. But there's almost kind of a fifth movement in that prologue that is
1:22.2	John the Baptist's role in pointing to all of these big truths about Jesus. So the goal for this week is to try to get a
1:29.0	better sense of who John the Baptist is. And in some ways, Luke, the previous book of the Bible from
1:35.2	John, gives us a pinch-zumed-in look at who John the Baptist is. So yesterday, we went and started
1:41.5	working on that in Luke one starting in verse five. And we only covered that one verse, but it was a lot there. I mean, this took us deep into the Old Testament. I'll read that again. In the time of Herod, king of Judea, there was a priest named Zechariah who belonged to the priestly division of Abijah. His wife Elizabeth was also a descendant of Aaron. Okay, rapid fire. Yesterday we went back,
2:03.4	and we looked at who Zechariah is descended from, and it turns out he's pretty legendary.
2:10.2	He's descended from one of the 24 priestly patriarchs, whatever we want to call him,
2:16.4	the contemporaries of King David, from
2:18.5	a thousand years before the time of Jesus, there were these 24 dudes who were all descended
2:23.8	from the tribe of Levi, descended from the household of Aaron, who got picked by David to be
2:31.0	the forefathers of this whole lineage of priests, and then these 24 priestly division
2:36.9	families for all of time were to take a couple weeks a year to run all the activities at the
