I kind of don't believe it with John Zmirak, who is in town.

You're in town to visit the land of your youth, and we're going to eat Greek food tonight.

And we have the freedom to talk about anything.

You've written so many articles.

You were just talking about how this week at stream.org, they're running a number of your dog columns. That's right, shaggy dog stories, if you

will. So today is near my dogs to thee. And it's about, you know, over the years I've rescued four

beagles, fostered one beagle, fostered a deaf Dalmatian that turned out to be epileptic, which I

discovered when he was in bed on top of me, and he started kicking and barking in his sleep and

peeing. And at first I thought, I woke up and being a Slavic peasant, I thought he was possessed.

I said the St. Michael Prayer, nothing changed.

So I thought, maybe it's medical. I'll turn to science. I'll resort to science. Heathen science. Some people have to stoop to science. That's right. And we took him in and he had epilepsy. But there's medicine for that anyway. His owners took him back. What a concept. It's just my stories of the various dogs I've rescued over the years.

Okay, John, because you're here and we have the freedom, I want to ask you, growing up in Queens, as you did, what part of Queens were you from again? I'm from Astoria. Astoria. I should know that. But you— I grew up thinking everybody in the world was Irish, Italian, or Greek. Right. When I got to Yale, I met my first Protestant, and I wanted to ask him, how do you like our country? That's funny. And I didn't realize it was their country because I had never left the Tribor area. We would occasionally go to Pennsylvania Dutch country, and I thought, oh, okay, let's watch the Protestants.

How interesting they have horses and buggies.

Unbelievable.

I thought maybe the different denominations, Lutheran, Baptist, Methodists,

handled different varieties of snakes.
