For today's teaching, we're going to look at John the Baptist and his characteristics, his qualities,

0:06.0

why he was such one of the greatest heroes of the faith, but yet there was one moment where he had

0:11.2

some weakness. One moment in his time of his ministry, he had, he was human. He had a weakness, and I think we can all relate to it.

0:23.7

We're not going to relate to John the Baptist in what he did in ministry. I mean, this guy was

0:27.2

on fire for the Lord, lived in the wilderness, looked like Duck Dynasty on steroids, and was just

0:33.2

preaching the gospel. Now, if you're taking note, you can write down, his ministry only lasted

0:37.3

about a year. We know that from the gospel. Now, if you're taking note, you can write down, his ministry only lasted about a year.

0:39.6

We know that from the timeline of where he's found in the gospels, and when you put all the

0:43.7

gospels together in a harmonious way, you can see that John's ministry lasted only about a year.

0:47.9

Jesus' ministry lasted three years. We know that. John and Jesus were actually related in a way.

0:53.7

They were like cousins. And John the

0:56.9

Baptist was born right before Jesus was, but they were roughly the same age. So they were both

1:01.7

about 30 when they began public ministry. And again, John, he's found in all the Gospels,

1:09.4

but in John's gospel and Matthews, we get a lot of detail about who the John the Baptist is.

1:14.8

But for today's teaching, we're going to look at the one thing that doesn't define him, but it's something that we all can relate to, because we're not going to relate to how he did ministry.

1:23.9

He was a unique person, but this we can relate. And I've entitled today's teaching, John the Baptist, when in doubt. And a lot of us, I think, even as Christians, we're going to go through a time, a season, maybe, of doubt. It's found not in John 1. We're going to look at John 1, but I want you to keep a hand in Matthew Chapter 11. Matthew chapter 11 is what we're going to close with today

1:44.2

talking on this time where John actually had a moment of doubting. You know, there's other men and

1:51.8

women of the faith that we can glean from that also we know doubted or questioned what the Lord was

1:56.6

doing. And I'm going to talk about how it's okay in a way to have some doubt at times,

2:03.3

but it's not okay to be stuck in that. And we're going to see and glean from what John

2:08.9

the Baptist was all about. So let's look at John chapter 1, and then we'll end in Matthew 11.

2:13.1

But let's start in verse 19. John 1, we're going to pick it up in verse 19.
