Summary

How many books do you think the average college graduate reads, per year, for self-improvement or to get better at their job?

Well, the studies have shown that the average is 0.5 books/year. So, if you were to read one book every other month, you’d be in the top 1% of people in the United States, and if you were to read one a month, you’d be in the top 1% on the Earth.

That 1% is represented mainly by great leaders, people who have learned that knowledge is power in many different ways, and who are constantly making efforts to expand their informational Universe.

But how do they find time to read? And how do they manage to remember and act on every advice they receive?

In today’s episode, John shares with us how to climb the ladder of success, effortless, by following certain tips that have proven to be efficient to every client that he has coached or gave a talk to.

John Spence is widely recognized as one of the top business and leadership development experts in the world. He is the author of four books and co-author of several more, he’s a business consultant, workshop facilitator, keynote speaker and executive coach with a client list that includes Fortune 500 firms, small businesses, professional associations, government, and academic institutions.

John’s areas of expertise include leadership, high-performance teams, managing change, organizational culture, and strategic thinking, planning, and execution, so listen to Episode 28 of Rejuvenaging, to learn the awesomely simple methods of being successful in your personal but especially in your professional life.

Questions I ask:

  • What was your journey to get to your special place in leadership and business circles? (03:45)
  • What made you decide to move into a field that was very competitive? (05:56)
  • What’s a typical workday or workweek for you? (07:02)
  • How do you prepare so that you’re both responsive to all of the various demands, but also, presumably not driving yourself crazy before each thing that you do? (08:36)
  • You’re usually not only the smartest person in the room but also the nicest. Does that come naturally to who you are or is it a skill that can be learned? (27:05)

In this episode, you will learn:

  • The core things that are essential for someone to have a successful life. (10:28)
