I get the impression John.

You were pretty academic, weren't you?

Like you were a good student.

Yeah, I was very keen to please people.

Do you think that's what motivated you to be?

I mean, you're obviously bright, a bright kid, but...

Well, my dad was like a sort of mega brain.

Was he?

And my mum was very into literature.

And I think I got a little bit of each.

So I loved poetry and drama and reading, but I could also sort of like to GCSE level be impressive

with sort of maths and science and stuff. So I'm sort of across the board quite bright,

but then I decided to go the more literary route,

because I sort of started to butt up against things I couldn't quite get my head around.

Yeah.

And could still understand the poetry and novels. And so I studied English.

Then I came across people who were like genuinely geniuses.
