Okay, welcome everybody. I'm Isaac Dover, Chief Washington correspondent for Politica, and welcome to season two of Off Message.

When Antoin Scalia died a year ago, I was somewhere in the air above Colorado on the Bernie Sanders

campaign plane landing in Denver. We got, as soon as the service came back on, we got notices that Scalia had died. Someone went running to the front of the plane to ask Bernie Sanders what he thought of it. He did not have an immediate response. But by that evening, he and Hillary Clinton, both speaking at a Colorado Democrats dinner, said that they thought that

whoever Barack Obama chose should be confirmed to the court.

That was, of course, after a statement had come out from Mitch McConnell that said that they

would not move on anybody that Obama nominated in his final year.

And after a Republican debate that night in which everybody on stage,

including this guy named Donald Trump, basically agreed with that statement,

and here we are.

It's been almost a year.

And we still have the vacancy on the court, but it may not be vacant for long.

Donald Trump, now president, has said that his mind is made up, probably, it seems,

on who he's going to pick, who his nominee is going to be for this very important spot.

He has said that he will make the announcement on Thursday,

and we are going to finally have an answer

to this question of who the next nominee for the Supreme Court is. We may not have an answer to

who the next justice of the Supreme Court is because I think we all know this is going to be a

very, very big fight. The Senate Democrats are going to go at this in every way that they can to try to

at least delay it, if not hold it up entirely. And what we have today is a person who has been

involved in this from the beginning, John Malcolm, who's the director of the Edwin Meese Center
