Summary

John Heilemann, host and creator of Showtime’s "THE CIRCUS" joins South Beach Sessions to bring da motherf-ckin' ruckus. So bring it on! Dan and John discuss what is likely to come from the felony charges brought against Trump, why Trump's mugshot will only help his 2024 reelection campaign, and how the majority of Americans don't want to see another presidential election between Biden and Trump. John also reveals his feelings to his viral exchange with comedian Russell Brand on "Real Time with Bill Maher" and Dan asks him about the roles Maher, Brand, and Joe Rogan play against "woke culture". You can watch THE CIRCUS: Inside the Greatest Political Show on Earth, streaming on Showtime now, with new episodes Sundays, and listen to John’s podcast, HELL AND HIGH WATER, wherever you get your podcasts. affairs analyst for NBC News and MSNBC. He's also the host executive producer and creator

0:22.0

of Show Times, the circus inside the greatest political show on earth. I recommend that show to

0:26.8

you on Showtime. It's fun and they do it a little bit differently. Let's start there, John.

0:32.0

And thank you for joining us. I imagine Trump was very good for your show. And I imagine the show

0:38.3

has has really found its voice in the last four or five years, really accentuating the crazy.

0:47.2

Yeah, you know, Dan, thanks for having me on first time call, a long time fan.

You know, we started the show in 2016 to cover one election. That was, you know, we thought we

0:57.2

were going to be one and done. And it has, it's a very hard show to make because we make basically a

1:02.4

real time documentary every week. So we start everything we shoot. We shoot in the week that

1:07.1

about leading up to we shoot edit, produce, do the whole thing from starting basically out of

1:11.2

Sunday, on a Monday, usually and shoot through Saturday. And then we have the show up on the air

1:15.3

on Sunday. So no, I really ever done that before. And we don't really know what we're doing when we

1:19.7

decided to try to to cover the presidential campaign in 2016 that way. I think like a lot of

1:25.1

people, it was, you know, you could imagine, I think you're, you're anybody who hears that things

1:29.4

break as are out of your mind. You're like, really are building the airplane on takeoff.

1:35.5

And I think, you know, one and done was probably the right way to think about that.

1:39.7

To one year, we'd be finished. And then, you know, Hillary Clinton was going to be,

1:43.6

although most likely in the United States, the idea that there would be a circus to cover in

1:48.0

Washington DC after a Clinton election didn't seem like an obvious thing. And then Trump won. And

1:56.4

showtime and all of us thought, well, the circus goes on. And we've been doing it, you know,
