Summary

In this authentic, genuine and honest episode, Rob speaks to fighter and father of Tyson Fury, John Fury! They talk about John’s childhood, his journey into fighting, his role as a father and of course his sons. Listen in to this episode to hear about generational strength, mental health and the boxing world; past, present and future. KEY TAKEAWAYS  Fighting has been in John’s family for generations. He began fighting to survive. Survival was in his and his brother’s DNA. As the generations continue and it becomes diluted, John wonders if it will end. John learnt a lot about boxing the hard way, he wasn’t treated well and had no support or coaching. He didn’t want his sons to get into boxing but nothing could keep Tyson away from the ring. A difficult childhood is what John attributes a lot of his challenges in life to. He wanted to make life different for his children but he recognises that his own difficulties and strength is what helped raise a boxing champion like Tyson. John wants Tyson to leave a Fury legacy. Where he continues to win and do great things for the traveling community. John wants people to be open minded about Tyson and his background and allow him to achieve great things. The world has changed a lot in John’s lifetime. He appreciates a lot of the good things in the modern world, such as the ability to be more open about our problems and feelings. However, he struggles sometimes as he believes life is a lot more complicated now, life used to be more straightforward and simple. Mental health is something John struggles with himself. He has built his own coping mechanisms to manage his symptoms, it is something he has struggled with all his life, he states if he has two ‘good’ mental health days a week then he is happy. John knew his son Tyson was a champion from the day he was born. He fought hard to survive as he was premature and at the time John was a big fan of Mike Tyson, hence his namesake: he always knew he was a fighter, he always knew he was going to be special. Many people criticise John’s son Tyson. John believes this is down to one word, jealousy. BEST MOMENTS   “There’s nothing else more important to me than my name” “He’s helping people outside the ring, not just in it” “People see things differently, it’s a better world, it’s a better place…there’s a place for everybody” “I’m a simple man, I like simple things” “I just wanted to be happy and do normal stuff and enjoy doing it” [Business, mindset, entrepreneur, disruptors] VALUABLE RESOURCES https://robmoore.com/ bit.ly/Robsupporter   https://robmoore.com/podbooks  rob.team ABOUT THE HOST Rob Moore is an author of 9 business books, 5 UK bestsellers, holds 3 world records for public speaking, entrepreneur, property investor, and property educator.
