So I want to get started in just a moment here. We're going to be starting at the beginning of Chapter 6 of Gospel according to St. John. To get us real quickly caught up because we're actually

at sort of a chapter break and at a break in the text last time, so we don't need quite as much

build up to where we are now as we have when we stop sort of in the middle of things.

We've just come to the end of sort of a longer story that involved the confrontation

between Jesus and the Jewish authorities

in Jerusalem after his healing of a paralyzed man, which, as we talked about, you wouldn't

think would get people upset, but because after healing him, he told him to carry his bed home,

and he told him to carry his bed on the Sabbath

day.

It caused a big problem.

And so, Jesus used that as an opportunity to rebuke those Jewish leaders, but not simply

to rebuke them in the sense of, you know, go away.

And, you know, I don't care about you, but to try to reason with them,

to try to appeal to them, to try to win them over to the correct understanding.

And we made that point that Jesus continues to converse with these people, even these people

who want to kill him, like the Pharisees, in the hopes that, you you know they will still repent and and come to

salvation and so at the very end we he sort of concluded that discussion with them and as

we're going to see as we pick up here in chapter 6 he has now left Jerusalem and gone back
