Summary

I am thrilled about this episode in the ongoing Process This series on Artificial Intelligence. In this episode, my series co-host and author of God-Like: A 500-Year History of Artificial Intelligence in Myths, Machines, Monsters, Kester Brewin, is joined by philosopher John Caputo. The conversation occurred at the intersection of artificial intelligence, technology, and theology. They explore the mystical and philosophical implications of AI, reflecting on humanity's relationship with technology and the future of AI in reshaping our understanding of existence. They also touch on key figures such as Heidegger and Derrida, addressing both the potential and peril of technological advancements. Whether you're a theology nerd or a curious mind, this interdisciplinary dialogue promises an enlightening exploration into AI and the human future. John David Caputo (born October 26, 1940) is an American philosopher who is the Thomas J. Watson Professor of Religion Emeritus at Syracuse University and the David R. Cook Professor of Philosophy Emeritus at Villanova University. Caputo is a major figure associated with postmodern Christianity and continental philosophy of religion, as well as the founder of the theological movement known as weak theology. Much of Caputo’s work focuses on hermeneutics, phenomenology, deconstruction and theology. Watch the conversation on YouTube here. Previous Episodes with Jack What to Believe? we have a visit from J.C. himself, Jack Caputo. And you may say to yourself, Whoa, Trip. Jack Caputo, he's probably been on this podcast 15 times over the years. He has. But this episode is like none other. How is that? Two reasons.

0:55.9

Number one, this is a part of the process, this series, on artificial intelligence.

1:01.7

Jack Caputo could be on here, unpacking Daradol, the nature of deconstruction, looking at philosophy and culture and all that kind of stuff.

1:09.1

Normally, we get going and go all sorts of directions.

1:12.2

This one is about humanity, technology, artificial intelligence.

1:16.9

So that's just, this is a different vibe, different question.

1:19.9

Different orientation, you say.

1:21.5

But there's another reason this one's going to be different.

1:23.8

Like none other, it's because I outsource the hosting microphone to my partner in the process this artificial intelligence series, Kester Bruin. That's right, author of Godlike, just came out. Great books. You should get it. Is talking with Jack Caputo. And this is why this conversation is completely different than the one I would have had with Caputo

1:46.5

even though I would love talking to Caputo because they're both radical theologians.

This is a chance to hear that radical theological perspective and what does it sound like
