Summary

How do we really come to understand ourselves? That question, perhaps more than any other, dominates our thinking as we use personality tests and other tools to discover the mystery that is me. There is a man named John the Baptizer whom Jesus called the greatest man who has ever lived. People tried to figure out who John was, and he said that the only way to really understand oneself is to first understand Jesus. In that day, like ours, many people were making the mistake of looking at themselves too much and looking at Jesus too little. If you want to understand who you are, the first thing you need to understand is who Jesus is.

0:36.0	I want you to think about somebody who's kind of a hero to you,
0:38.8	somebody you look up to, you learn from,
0:41.3	somebody that you aspire to be like, somebody that you hold in
0:44.6	high regard. There tend to be these people in our life that they live great lives.
0:48.2	Sometimes they're athletes, sometimes they're musicians, sometimes they're
0:51.9	political leaders, sometimes they're political leaders, sometimes they're business
0:53.8	leaders, sometimes there are people who just do extraordinary things, they leave a
0:57.9	big footprint in their wake and they make a difference in human history and we
1:02.4	tend to hold them in high regard.
1:04.0	These are kind of our heroes.
1:05.8	And as a result, when we find someone who lived a great life,
1:09.2	we tend to examine that life more carefully and closely.
1:12.3	This is where we get biographical books and movies trying to examine the lives of those who have gone before us and done a great job at living their life and leaving their legacy.
