It is our desire to bring you a systematic

study of the entire Bible, chapter by chapter, book by book. When tragedy strikes, do you ever

wonder, where is God? Why isn't he here to help? Why doesn't he do something?

That certainly must have been how Mary and Martha felt. The two sisters were friends of Jesus, and they called upon him in their hour of trouble.

Their brother, Lazarus, lay sick, and they sent messengers to him, but Jesus didn't come right away. He delayed coming, and Lazarus lay sick and they sent messengers to him but Jesus didn't come right away.

He delayed coming and Lazarus died. Why would Jesus do that? And why doesn't he seem to come when we need him?

Well, let's join Pastor John as we continue our study in John chapter 11 and see what we can learn about this situation.

Then verse 17 when Jesus came, he found that he had lain in the grave, Lazarus, four days now.

Bethany was near into Jerusalem about 15 furlongs off and many of the Jews came to Martha and

to Mary to comfort them concerning their brother.

Now Martha, verse 20, as soon as she had heard that Jesus was coming, went to meet him,

which was breaking the customs of the Orient, breaking the traditions of that culture.

She really was sort of violating customs and traditions as when she heard Jesus was coming,

she runs out to meet him. I see Martha as being very much in the same kind of personality and mindset as Peter.
