I'm Jesse Gaskell, and that was Joel Goddard, who you heard doing our intro.

Yes, very excited that he did our intro, and coincidentally, he's also this week's guest.

He is. Yeah, we found him. I mean, a lot of people have asked for an interview with Joel Goddard.

He was, for those who don't know, the announcer for late night, for many, many years.

For the entire run of late night, yeah, from 1993 to early 2009.

And he, especially once Andy left the show in 2000, Joel, I mean, Joel would be on the show periodically in sketches.

But once Andy left, he was on a lot more, and he was in hundreds of sketches.

And he became a real fan favorite, people loved him.

The character of Joel, who was the character of Joel, right?

He was very malleable. He would do it. Yes.

We'd be like, sometimes early on, to be like, do you think Joel will do this?

I don't know. Maybe I'll do anything you write.

And after a while, I was like, I don't think we even have to run this by him.

That's correct. I'll do anything you write. And I will say an act of no.

Yeah, he didn't say no to much, which was great.

It was great. Yes. No, great for company writers.

Sometimes Max would be like, I don't want to do that, Max Weinberg.

He would be like, okay, we'll give it to the bomb.
