Wrapping up January with a really familiar phrase Christians love, or at least some of us say this a lot and the rest of us don't really love it.

God won't give you more than you can handle.

I actually wish this statement were true.

It's just not.

Now listen, we have hope with Jesus and I have a beautiful verse to share with you that I think is the intention of many people who say this phrase.

But first,

let's get into why this common phrase Christians love to use, God won't give you more than you can handle. It's not only not in the Bible, but categorically untrue. Here we go. I want to first sort of get this out of the way that God cares about all of us deeply.

We know this, right?

And I'm not just saying this, but scripture gives us plenty of proof.

Verses like cast all your cares on him for He cares for you, First Peter 5, 7.

The verse about how he gathers our tears in a bottle. I love that

verse, Psalm 56, 8. The verse about the very number of hairs on your head or numbery, that verse is in the

gospels, Matthew and Luke. The verse about how, because he bends down to listen to us in our prayers,

that's a beautiful verse in Psalm. And the entire Psalm

139, those are just a quick start about some of the verses about how much God cares about us and the

attention that he's paying to us. He is not a negligent God. He's not unfeeling or uncaring. He is a God

who died for us, the ultimate gift, ultimate love. And he's a

God of choice and free will. And according to John 1633, we live in a world where there's trouble.

In this world, there will be trouble. All of those things can be true at the same time simultaneously.
