and I welcome you to just five minutes with me, which I trust and pray will be five minutes well-spent.

A lot of first this week on the new Jesus Over Everything show, and this is our official

first Friday 5. But look, it's got exactly what you love from the old Friday 5, a list of

five things to help you in some way. That's the practical how-to kind of thing I'm always talking

about at the top of the show like we do. And up today, I want to help us put God first in the new year. Seems like a good time to do it, right?

And a lot of us have this intention, I think.

And if we're going to have a show that says Jesus over everything,

we should probably try to back that up.

So let's dive into some practical ways to do just that.

So I do love a new year for that fresh start feeling, and I know there's nothing magical in a new calendar year, but I still believe in the hope a new year brings.

So with that in mind, I want us to think about some things we can do to put God first in

his rightful place in 2019 for the first time

or maybe the first time in a long time. And here we go. Number one, put your phone across the room

instead of by your bed. Now, I've heard my friend Jenny Allen talk about doing this. I think it's such a

great practice to get into. Our phones are such a distraction. None of us can deny how they have infiltrated our

lives in such a crazy way. And we level-headed people find ourselves ruled by this device no bigger

than our hands. So putting it across the room, I think, is a great idea. And I know it would help us

all not only probably sleep better, but most of all not be tempted to grab that thing

first thing in the morning, but reach for God first in the sense of our Bible or prayer and just
