Welcome to Dedicated. I'm your host doug brunt we are lucky today to have with us joseph canon joe has more wisdom about the craft

and the business side of writing than anyone i know through the 80s and early 90s he was

CEO of dutton and also an executive at Houghton Mifflin.

These are two of the most prestigious publishing houses in the world.

Joe then made a splash around 1995 when this revered publishing executive was known to be writing a manuscript for a novel of his own.

And then there was a scramble for the publishing rights to

this book because it was also getting out that this was an excellent, excellent new novel,

which became Los Alamos, published in 1997. And from there, Joe never looked back. He's written

10 spy thrillers, including The Good German, which was made into a movie starring George Clooney

and Kate Blanchette.

And his latest novel is The Berlin Exchange.
