Hannah Spinney, and we're coming to you from Westchester, Pennsylvania, the headquarters of QVC.

0:41.4

Oh, you know what?

0:42.1

I knew that because I one time had an audition for QVC to do like a hosting thing for those guys.

0:47.5

And they said, are you willing to relocate to Philadelphia?

0:51.4

And I said, no, I am not.

0:53.1

Oh, full time?

0:54.7

Yeah, you have to live there full time, yeah. So how far is Westchester from Philadelphia? I could look out the window, but I don't want to. I think it's just a suburb, really. Oh, okay. But we're coming here from the QVC headquarters. Our topic today is Joan Rivers' story is told by her headwriter. Tony Tripoli, that's our guest.

1:11.3

Exactly.

And Joan Rivers made a fortune, a wonderful fortune on QVC with her own collection of... With her own collection of jewelry. And did she do more than jewelry? Was it clothes and stuff as well? I believe that, yeah, she did all sorts of accoutrement. Yeah. Yeah, you heard me. A coupres. No, a full-on clothes. Yeah, Yeah, so when you do a commitment like that for QVC, you go and you basically like live and breathe those products, as I understand. And you do like these, I don't know, I don't know what it is, but it's like a mass amount of work and a short amount of time where you have to sell these products. It's a tremendous amount of pressure. Yeah, it's always like every, you need, if you call in the next five minutes, we'll also include a hand job from, you know. But I mean, it's like so serious. It's very like, it's almost like they're landing planes in there at QVC. Yeah. You mean, it's like all hands on deck at all times. Yeah.

2:01.9

They've got to move the merchandise. We've got to get this stuff out. I know. Yeah. So you and I were, oh, we're our artists and we're this and that. And these people are like, it's in my warehouse. It's got to get out. And these people are making money. Well, here's the thing. No, no, this is interesting, though.

2:16.1

Joan Rivers was such an incredible woman

2:18.4

because she had her hands in so many different, you know, she was involved in so many different things. What's the term? Had her hands in a lot of pots. Yes. No, that's not the term. She had her hands in a lot of pants. No, she had her hands in a lot of, What the hell? Now you're making me do it. A lot of different industries. I mean, obviously she wore a lot of hats.

2:36.8

I believe that's what you wanted to say. She was a groundbreaking comedian, obviously, and she paved the path for so many female comedians now. But then she became a businesswoman. She's a designer, and she had her own shows. She had television shows, and she wrote books and had albums and had quite a few documentaries.

2:52.1

Her most recent documentary, a piece of work. Did you see that? Yeah, on Netflix, yeah. On this past summer. Yeah, yeah. And that really aired right up, you know, right before her death. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, I think it had just come out. And then, of course. She showed how that woman, man, she worked so hard.

3:08.7

Yeah, she worked all the time.

3:10.3

That's the thing.

3:11.0

She looks nonsense. just come out. And then, of course... And it really showed how that woman, man, she worked so hard.
