Winnie, April 2, 1969. Dear Winnie, every day I remember that hope is a powerful weapon,

even when all else is lost. You and I, however, have gained much over the years and are making

advances in important respects. Nothing will harm you, my darling. You are in my thoughts every

moment of my life. I think about you when I close my eyes at night and I will be hard-broken

until the morning you are by my side when I awaken. But until that day comes, please send more
