You know, Mike Murphy started in the NHL as a player in 1971 and a couple of weeks ago he called it a career as he

senior VP of hockey operations for the NHL and in between there's a whole lot of

action there's a whole lot of stories a whole lot of laughs as well and a little bit of trivia and we'll try to get into all of it

with the former senior VP of hockey operations he's retired comma sort of here's Mike Murphy

The pleasure is all mine. First of all, before we get into a couple of things and I've pulled a couple of things out from your from your career at your at your various stops

One of the things that I want to start with I said no Gino Ojic passes away yesterday at the age of 52.

You coached him with Milwaukee as well.

I think he might have only played about 29 games.

We put up 150 penalty minutes and that was a really tough Milwaukee team as well.

What do you remember of your time with Geno Ojic?

Well, Geno had just come out of Junior and was kind of a raw professional. He was still learning to be a

pro. At the time we had a very tough team in Milwaukee. We had five or six guys that were really at the top end of toughness and the

Vancouver Canucks had struggled and with physicality over the last couple of years when and when Pat Quinn and Brian Burke went in there they wanted to

toughen up the team and I remember Gina was playing really well for me and I could play him almost at any forward position and

actually I played him at center a couple of times because I could get better matchups

with him there and he was just a total team player on the bench like whatever you wanted him to do he would

do you never complain he didn't care about I shouldn't say he didn't care about ice 10 but he would sacrifice ice time to win a game and I remember

Pat called me and I want to say it was like early December and he said what's going on with object and I said he's playing well he's doing what we ask him

He's very tough and one of the toughest guys in this league and it was a really tough league and he says get him on a plane here and so I remember calling
