Summary

The Rich Zeoli Show- Full Episode (10/20/2023):

3:05pm- On Friday, the House of Representatives held a vote to fill the speakership position left vacant following the removal of Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA). The Republican nominee for speaker, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), received 194 votes during Friday’s vote—well short of the 217 votes he needed to win a majority of the House and the lowest number Jordan has received yet. In a secret ballot held after Friday’s floor vote, Republican House members decided to remove Jim Jordan as their caucus’s nominee for the speakership. Jordan spoke with members of the press on Capitol Hill, saying “it was an honor to be their speaker-designee.” According to Luke Broadwater of The New York Times, “Representative Tom Emmer of Minnesota, the No. 3 House Republican, has begun making calls about a bid for speaker.” You can read updates as they are announced here: https://www.nytimes.com/live/2023/10/20/us/house-speaker-vote-jim-jordan/cad01d9b-8ada-54a0-bcb2-c2b6655a0649?smid=url-share

3:15pm- On Thursday night, President Joe Biden delivered a televised address from the Oval Office—calling for a nearly $100 billion foreign aid package that would send $60 billion to Ukraine and $14 billion to Israel. In response to the president’s speech, Senator J.D. Vance condemned Biden for attempting to use a terror attack in Israel to raise money for Ukraine. He continued: “Right now America doesn't need client states—we need real allies. If Europeans aren't going to step up and carry their fair share, they are not real allies. They basically are depending on our generosity.”

3:20pm- According to Kayla Guo of The New York Times, “Representative Patrick McHenry of North Carolina, the temporary speaker, said House Republicans would return Monday night for a candidate forum, with the goal of bringing a nominee to a floor vote on Tuesday—a schedule some denounced as too delayed. But McHenry said he set that schedule because ‘we need space and time for candidates to talk to other members.’ He added, ‘It’s fair to say that Leader Scalise wasn’t given adequate time.’” You can read more here: https://www.nytimes.com/live/2023/10/20/us/house-speaker-vote-jim-jordan/88a876e7-84bc-5a55-9b20-93ddad3f17a4?smid=url-share

3:35pm- Reacting to the House Republican caucus’s decision to remove Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) as their speaker nominee, Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) said “we will have to go back to the drawing board”—blaming Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), and the seven other Republicans that joined Democrats to oust McCarthy as Speaker of the House, for the ensuing chaos. McCarthy told reporters: “we are in a very bad position as a party.”

3:40pm- Gabriel Nadales—National Director of “Our America”—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss his latest article for The Hill, “Retail Theft is Robbing People of the American Dream.” Nadales writes: “Inflation is not the only force responsible for the rising prices of food, clothing, and convenience items. Runaway shoplifting is the covert culprit weighing down your already-hefty shopping bills. America’s ‘shoplifting epidemic’ cost retailers nearly $100 billion in 2021 alone, a price that is felt by every American. Yet Lawmakers and prosecutors are making a bad situation worse by refusing to hold criminals accountable.” You can read Nadales’ full article here: https://thehill.com/opinion/criminal-justice/4230788-retail-theft-is-robbing-people-of-the-american-dream/

4:05pm- Donald Trump has been fined $5,000 for violating a court-imposed gag order. Earlier this month, Judge Arthur Engoron barred Trump from criticizing members of the court after the former president jokingly referred to a law clerk as Chuck Schumer’s girlfriend in a social media post. According to CNN, Judge Engoron warned Trump about possible imprisonment if the gag order is continually ignored. You can read more here: https://www.cnn.com/2023/10/20/politics/trump-social-media-fraud-trial-warning/index.html

4:15pm- As of now several Republicans are believed to be actively pursuing the House speakership, including Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN), Representatives Byron Donalds (R-FL), Austin Scott (GA), and Kevin Hern (R-OK). Former Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) has endorsed Emmer.

4:40pm- Dr. Victoria Coates— Former Deputy National Security Advisor & the Vice President of the Davis Institute for National Security and Foreign Policy at The Heritage Foundation—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss President Joe Biden’s televised address tying Israeli aid to Ukraine. 5:00pm- Dr. Wilfred Reilly—Professor of Political Science at Kentucky State University & Author of “Lies My Liberal Teacher Told Me”—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss his latest article for National Review, “Why Thomas Sowell Matters.” He writes, “[t]he best known ‘black conservative’ of his era, and in my opinion one of the top ten social scientists, Sowell has influenced contemporary American discourse in a hundred ways—especially for those of us on the right.” You can read the full article here: https://www.nationalreview.com/magazine/2023/11/why-thomas-sowell-matters/. 5:35pm- During a video conference, Robin DiAngelo—the far-left author of “White Fragility”—accused Disney’s movie Frozen of promoting racism. She goes on to bizarrely suggest that children aren’t innocent and that by age three many of them determine “it is better to be white.”

5:55pm- Rich hosts The Mark Levin Show!

They want to tie it to Israel funding, which is a lot more popular, and they want to say it's got to be a package deal. This is to protect them. This is why they're doing it. And whether it's just swamp creatures like McConnell or swamp creatures like, you know, name your Republican Dejore in the House of Representatives. This is the reason why, because they want to go home to their constituents and say, look, I didn't want to have to vote for more Ukraine funding, but I mean it was Israel. I had to support Israel. And at the moment, the funding for Israel is much more politically popular.

Is Israel not able to defend itself at this point? What does it need for money for? If the United States is also sending ships and offering up our military resources and what's happening here? What's going on? But this is an administration that is hell bent on spending money, spending as much money as they possibly can. Here's Jim Jordan reacting to the second ballot that led to him being removed as the Republican nominee for Speaker of the House of Representatives. Take a listen.

I'm honored to be there, Speaker Designee, but I felt it was important that we all know, get an answer to the question if they wanted me to continue in that role. And so we put the question to him. They made a different decision. I told the conference that I appreciated getting to work with everyone, talk with everyone. I got to know members in our conference that I didn't really know that well over the last three weeks. And that we need to come together and figure out who we are.

Who our speaker is going to be? I'm going to work as hard as I can to help that individual so that we can go help the American people.

4:39.0

It's just a damn shame. It really is. It's a damn shame that this is where things have wound up. Jim Jordan's a great guy, but he's not going to be the guy who's just going to sign blank checks. That's the problem. That's why he's out. Do you think it's a coincidence that Jim Jordan is out the very same day that the president is now demanding what $100 billion in aid total package?

4:59.0

$60 billion for Ukraine. I mean, is it any surprise that the guy who wouldn't just sign blank checks and was demanding up or down votes is now out?

5:07.0

That by his own by by the Republican party by the Republican party by 25 Republicans who pushed him out.

5:14.0

He's biting his linking the war in Israel to the war in Ukraine and saying that it's our arsenal of democracy.

5:20.0

This is what Biden said last night. It's our arsenal of democracy as he's just demanding more money.

5:26.0

And unfortunately, there are way too many Republican members of Congress who are more than happy to be with him on this more than happy.

5:33.0

This is what Biden said last night during his speech, which I didn't watch live because I was at Parks Casino having way more fun.

Let's start with cut number four Matt.

American leadership is what holds the world together. American Alliance is what keep us America safe.

5:50.0

American values are what make us a partner that other nations want to work with.

5:55.0

To put all that at risk if we walk away from Ukraine, we turn our backs on Israel. It's just not worth it.

6:03.0

That's why tomorrow I'm going to send to Congress an urgent budget request to fund America's national security needs to support our critical partners including Israel and Ukraine.
