January 17th, 1962 in New Market, Ontario, Canada.

He was born to Kathleen and Percy Carey. Percy was a musician and accountant, and Kathleen was a

homemaker. He is the youngest of four children and was raised Catholic. When Jim was eight, he began

making faces in the mirror and discovered that he had a talent for impressions.

Two years later, when he was 10, he wrote a letter to Carol Burnett of the Carol Burnett show and asked to be considered for a role. He wrote that he was already a master of impressions,

even though at 10, I'm not sure if that was 100% accurate. However, he received this form letter back in reply

that basically like told him no, we're not, we're not accepting new people right now. And he was so

excited just to like receive this letter back. He spent his early years in a part of metropolitan

Toronto before the family moved to Burlington, Ontario. But the family had some troubles.

Sometime in his teen years, the family became homeless and was living out of a Volkswagen van.

He and his brother spent months living in a tent in a park on the shore of Lake, Ontario.

The family struggled financially, but Percy finally found work at a tire factory.
