Hey my friends, welcome back to the morning mindset. I'm so glad you're here.

We don't have time to waste this morning. We've got a very challenging passage before us as we're looking in the Gospel of John

chapter 14. I just want to warn you right up front this is one of those passages

that can kind of strip your gears. It can be confusing, it

elicits lots of questions, and rightly so, there are questions to be asked about

this because there are ways in which what we're about to read

Straight from the lips of Jesus can bring us great encouragement and break great confidence and great hope

But then there's ways in which what he says can cause us to kind of step back and say,

wait a minute. Well, how does that coincide with this other thing I've read in scripture?

And how does that coincide with the realities of life in this

way or that way? And my friends all of those are experiences we need to go through.

We need to struggle with the scriptures. We need to work hard to get our

brains and our hearts wrapped around it. And let me just say this before we dive

into the passage.

We also need to be willing to create new categories of thought in our own minds rather than trying to squeeze what we read into our pre-existing notions of what

is reality and what is not.

You see, because the Bible is like a flashlight. It reveals what exists. It shines on things to show us what we don't understand already.

And that's what Jesus' words here are about to do. Now, I'll just tell you, you're probably

going to come away from this section a little bit dissatisfied, because it doesn't give us all the details.

But let's remember something and that's the context.

Jesus is speaking to his disciples right before he goes to the cross.

And he's speaking to them kind of in a preparatory manner.
