Romans chapter 1 verses 1 through 6. Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle,

set apart for the gospel of God, when she promised beforehand through his prophets in the

Holy Scriptures concerning his son, who was descended from David, according to the flesh,

and was declared to be the Son of God in power, according to the spirit of holiness by his

resurrection from the dead. Jesus Christ our Lord, through whom we have received grace and

apostleship to bring about the obedience of faith for the sake of his name among all the nations,

including you who are called to belong to Jesus Christ. How's that for an introduction? Paul

describing who he is from the very beginning as a servant of Jesus, then he gives us this picture

for the very beginning of the book of Romans of the glory of Jesus, descended from David, a

Son of Man, declared to be the Son of God in power by his resurrection from the dead,

through whom so this is where I really want us to focus, meditate on, pray according to verse 5,

through whom through Jesus we have received grace and apostleship to bring about the obedience

of faith for the sake of his name among all the nations. There's a done we could talk about just

and that one verse, but I want us to think about how from the very beginning of the book of Romans,

which is one of the most incredible pictures in the Bible of the gospel. These first eight chapters

of Romans are breathtaking, eight of the most glorious chapters in all of the Bible, and then the

practical implications of the gospel that flow in our lives and in the church in chapters 9 through 16,

but notice Paul's purpose in writing and not just in writing, the book of Romans, but in living,

he has received grace from God for this purpose. This is why he's writing and this is why he's

living to bring about the obedience of faith, so to lead people to trust and obey God for the sake of
