In this episode, we break down one of the most controversial claims circulating online — that the name of Jesus is pagan in origin and secretly means “Hail Zeus.” But when you actually follow the linguistic, historical, and biblical trail… the narrative starts to collapse.

Does the name Jesus actually mean hail Zeus?

0:10.0

So I'm going to talk today about something that is resurfacing again for the one billionth time, and it always seems to do that, especially when we're at a heightened state

0:21.6

in the conspiratorial world. And this is one of those things that's just probably never going to go

0:26.0

away. And I feel like I need to talk about it because I saw it resurfacing again and permeating

0:31.6

again. So I want to talk about the fact that there are people who believe that the name Jesus actually

0:38.5

means hail Zeus. And I'm actually going to present the claim first, and then we're going to move

0:44.7

into what I actually think about it and what I have when it comes to etymology and historically

0:51.8

and how that this is actually impossible for Jesus to mean

0:58.3

hail Zeus, but we're going to go through it. So in starting with the claim, people will say that

1:03.4

they see historical documents that the name Jesus didn't even come to existence until the

1:08.0

1600s when the letter J was introduced into the English language,

1:13.2

which is true. And because of that, they say that the name Jesus is only around 400 years old,

1:18.6

and that the Greek E Jesus, or as some like to pronounce, Jesus, comes from the name Zeus,

1:25.9

the ruling God in the Greek pantheon. Now, Zeus is the chief deity

1:31.0

of the Greek pantheon, and he is a sky and thunder god in ancient Greek religion and mythology,

1:39.1

and he rules as the king of the gods on Mount Olympus. And he's actually respected as the Skyfather. And being this

1:46.4

chief of the gods, he actually assigned roles to the others. Even the gods who are not his natural

1:51.3

children addressed him as father and all the gods rise in his presence. So in my opinion,

1:59.2

Zeus is what we would call one of these fallen Elohim, and he has tried to present himself as the one true God.

2:07.1

And he is just trying to mirror this type of imagery.
