If Jesus was God, but he was men at the same time, when he died on the cross, did he die as a God as well? Yes. And I said, no. And honestly, I didn't know what to answer. And I said, I got to call Patrick. I'm glad you did. So let's walk through this together. So we know that, as it says in John's Gospel, John chapter 1, verse 1, in the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word

was God. And then in verse 14, it says, and the word became flesh and dwelt among us. So the first

thing to keep in mind is that in the incarnation, in Jesus Christ, the divine person of the second

person of the Trinity, the son, took flesh and became human being. So he is a divine person

who has obviously his divine nature. He also has a perfect human nature that's joined perpetually

to his divinity. So in Jesus, the person is God. He has a divine and a human nature. Therefore, in his humanity, in Christ,

it was God who in Jesus was learning how to walk and tie his sandals and how to speak and how

to do carpentry and all the other things that Jesus learned to do in his humanity. It was God

who is the subject of all that. God is the person. Keep in mind

that Jesus is not half God, half human. He's not a divine person and a human person. He's a

divine person. So fast forward to the cross. So on the cross, God died. And keep in mind that dying

does not mean annihilation. Some people stumble when they hear

this because they think, well, then how did the universe not end? Well, there's no question about that.

God in his divinity cannot die. In his humanity, Jesus died. His human nature is his soul and his

body joined together. And death is the separation of the body and the soul.

So it's not annihilation. The universe doesn't stop. In his divinity, nothing changes, but it was God,

the person who died on the cross. And if it weren't God who died on the cross for us, then we would

still be dead in our sins. Because we as

human beings can't accomplish what only God himself could accomplish by dying for us on the

cross.
