When people speak about Christ coming to earth the first time, they usually talk about how he came.

But the great emphasis of Scripture is on why he came.

Today, we examine the purpose statements found throughout the gospel records.

Each of them help us to understand more about Jesus.

On the other side of that, of course, we know that the God of the Bible, the God of truth, is the God of

light. And that's why Jesus came. Jesus came to bring God's light into a sin-darkened world.

We're talking about why Jesus came, and I want to bring you to one of the great purpose

statements of Christ today found in John chapter 12. The context of the chapter is a discussion

of light and darkness. Jesus even says to them in

verse 35, yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while you have the light, less darkness

come upon you for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whether he goeth. While you have light,

believe in the light, but you may be the children of light. So he's giving them a choice between

light and darkness. There are two kinds of people on earth. There are the children of light, and

they're the children of darkness. When you obey the light that God gives you, God gives you more light.

perfect day. In other words, for the child of light, it gets brighter and brighter and brighter
