Summary

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined by the Traitors-starring legend JESSIE ROUX!

An episode for the books right here! Those of you who love and appreciate the how Traitors will have surely also come to love and appreciate the recent breakout superstar Jessie. Jessie's awesome from the start of course but it's a weirdly rare thing to see and hear folks with a stammer out there in the mainstream media (our very own Pip notwithstanding), so when she comes along and blesses the world with such an aura and pure vibes it is a treat to be celebrated. Naturally - as comes up in the conversation - Jessie is not her stammer, in so much as it is not her identity. So enjoy this brilliant chat which covers so much in her life, upbringing, present day and so much in her personal experience which leads to the person you're listening to in this episode. Pure greatness.

* SPOILERS LATE IN THE EP FOR ANYONE WHO HASN'T SEEN SERIES 4 OF TRAITORS AND INTENDS TO!

Welcome, welcome, welcome. This is The Distraction Pieces podcast episode 659. And what a special episode we've got today. So many of you have asked for this one and have been excited about this one. I'm joined today by Jesse Rue, who was on the last series of traitors and was absolutely fantastic. Now, if you've not watched traitors, don't worry, it's okay.

0:23.8

This podcast is for you as well.

0:26.1

But if you have watched traitors, you're in for a double treat.

0:29.9

Because a lot of you will know I have a stammer,

0:32.6

and I've had a stammer for my whole life, or since I was five,

0:36.4

but I've been a patron of the British Stammer

0:38.1

association, aka Stammer, for a decade or so, and we've been pushing for representation. You may also know I'm a huge fan of traitors. I've watched every series. Every series I start the new one going, it's not going to be as good as last year. There's going to be a drop-off, and then it exceeds it and it's amazing.

0:55.0

But it's worth noting that this is the first time I've had anyone from Traitors

0:58.9

on the podcast. So that shows our special Jesse is. In fact, I did a video because in case you

1:05.1

don't know, Jesse has a stammer and the representation was amazing. And I did a video about it. And here's the audio from it. I did a video about it and here's the

1:11.8

audio from it a little Instagram video I did here's the audio buddy piece drop the audio in for probably a decade now a lot of you will know I've been working with stama for obvious reasons, to try and push for great representation of people who

1:30.5

stammer on TV, film, radio, all that kind of thing.

1:36.0

So as you can imagine, I got a lot of message when the first episode of the new series of

1:40.5

Traitors started, because there was a contestant who has a stammer.

1:45.9

There was finally representation.

1:48.2

And what representation it was.

1:50.6

A woman called Jessie was on the show, has a stammer, is cool and funny and popular.

1:59.1

Because as I said, I've been banging on about representation for a decade or so.

2:05.6

So whilst I've watched with so much pride and joy and happiness, there's also been some bits that have

2:11.6

surprised me. Like I've had points where I'm sitting in my living room, on my sofa, watching,

2:19.0

and I have felt like someone is standing on my chest. I've felt all the air just go out on my lungs. I've genuinely been

2:25.0

like almost struggling for breath because it's felt so hard at points to see Jesse get stuck
