Summary

This week on The Mom Room, Renee is joined by Jessie Inchauspé, aka the Glucose Goddess. Jessie's scientific background has helped her reach a massive audience where she shares through her own personal health journey (mental and physical) how to make informed choices when it comes to nutrition. Jessie explains how her new book, 9 Months That Count Forever, came to be and what she uncovered about the female body by digging into the science. Renee and Jessie discuss how disempowering the classic lines of "avoid cold cuts" and "don't eat sushi" are, and how there's actually so many cool things that pregnant women can add to their nutrition to feel empowered knowing that they are doing what's most optimal for their baby's growth, in utero and in life. Knowledge is power and if you are looking for more information on how to go about nutrition while pregnant, this episode is for you! And if you're wanting more - check out Jessie's book linked below!

Jesse, welcome to the mom room.

0:15.6

I'm so excited to talk to you.

0:17.7

Thank you for having me.

0:19.2

Of course.

0:20.3

I want to know about your background, like your

0:22.3

education. You have built this massive following online, the glucose goddess. I feel like

0:30.2

I've been following your content for so long. How did this all come to be? Wow. I feel like

0:35.7

so long ago now that I started, but it's only been, I guess,

0:38.9

seven years. I think I started my account in 2019 right before COVID hit. And my background is in

0:45.3

science. So I studied mathematics and undergrad, biochemistry and grad school. So I feel like, you know,

0:50.2

I'm a scientist, I'm a researcher. And through a sort of convoluted personal health journey, from breaking my back when it was

0:59.8

19 to having a lot of mental health issues, yeah, to trying to figure out how it could possibly

feel better.

1:07.1

The universe literally led me on the path to discovering blood sugar and the science of blood sugar.

1:13.5

And when I learned about blood sugar, also called glucose, it helped me to connect what I was

1:18.5

eating to my mental health state. And I started seeing that if I was eating a lot of sugar and

1:24.5

carbs that were putting my glucose levels on a roller coaster, my mental health was worse.

1:29.3

And then I was able to improve my mental health by keeping my glucose levels more stable.

1:35.5

And that was really the beginning of my passion for the subject. And as I discovered all the

1:39.7

science, I felt like it was kind of a shame that it wasn't widely known. And so I started on Instagram.

I remember thinking, oh, you know, if 10,000 people follow this account, it'll be such a
