Summary

Haven't bothered to check out the Good One back catalogue yet? Well, don't worry. We're digging out the classics to bring to you while you wait for our next season. In this proto-episode of Good One, hear the interview with Jerry Seinfeld that inspired this whole show. Recorded live at Vulturefest in 2015, Jesse was given the opportunity to interview Jerry in front of a live audience. The conversation is based around a clip from Jerry's series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee (now on Netflix), but quickly branches out to include Jerry's history with his Seinfeld costars, his past and present material, and even the his feelings on filming a new special--something that wouldn't happen until two years later in 2017. Also included: Jerry really, really doesn't want to use a mic for Q&A. Follow Jerry on Twitter. This episode originally aired on May 14, 2017. Learn more about your ad choices. This is a headgum podcast. Hello, I'm Jesse David Fox, and welcome to Good One. The podcast in which a comedian

0:19.6

writer or director comes on to play and then talk about one of their jokes.

0:23.9

So I'm sometimes asked about how I came up with the idea for this podcast.

0:28.1

So with this, the first episode of our mini season where I'm going to pick certain breakthrough

0:31.9

episodes from our archives, I'll tell what is kind of our origin story.

0:37.0

Or at least in the interview you're about to hear, you'll sort of see the initial spark.

0:42.8

So in 2015 I was giving the opportunity to interview Jerry Seinfeld

0:45.7

at Folter Festival.

0:47.2

I know this podcast features me talking to famous people pretty often,

0:50.6

but this was no small deal.

0:52.3

I'm pretty sure I don't need to explain why.

0:54.5

The Peg was a new season of comedians and cars getting coffee but I was told we can talk about anything

0:58.8

and all I want to talk about was jokes. It was Jerry Seinfeld. Besides writing some of the best jokes,

1:04.8

there few people care more about the writing of them. That said I was also

1:08.7

aware that Jerry was of a generation not exactly accustomed to breaking down their jokes, dead frog and so on and so on,

1:15.2

so I knew I couldn't linger too much.

1:17.2

But I can't exactly explain the thrill I experience in those moments during the interview

1:21.2

where we got into it.

1:22.8

I mean it's like talking to Saisana about painting fruit or Paul Bakuz about making soup

1:27.9

or talking to Vince Carter about freaking dunking basketball. Afterward he said,

1:34.0

you know you're really interested in jokes,

1:36.0

which I always interpret it mean
