Okay, here we go. Hurricane Ivan struck Mobile, Alabama, September 15, 2004.

It was on this day that John Paul Chapman arrived at the home of Mark and Kim Bentley.

A few years prior in 99, 2000, John had worked for the Bentley's and they had graciously provided him with a place to stay.

When he arrived in 2004, he was once again seeking employment and a place to stay.

The Bentley's were preparing to flee the incoming storm

and they were headed to Chickasaw, Alabama, to stay with relatives.

But they told John that he could stay in their mobile home while they left.

Their cousin, Scooter Coleman, was also staying at their home.

The next day was Thursday the 16th and John was searching for a radio and batteries

because the storm had fallen and electricity was completely gone. So he reached

out to Kim via a two-way radio that they had and

Kim told John to have Scooter go into her closet and search for the radio and

batteries because she was certain that those items
