It would be illegal for a husband who had a hard heart to do this.

Right.

But God doesn't have a hard heart.

No.

The intention of the law was for people to be together forever.

So isn't there a sense in which God is fulfilling the original intent of the marriage commands by coming towards his adulterous bride.

It's beautiful.

We are continuing our journey through the book of Jeremiah.

We began our study looking at what is prophetic literature,

what was Jeremiah's prophecy in general, and then last episode we looked at Jeremiah chapter

one, which serves as a prologue to look at his calling, what the shape and structure of

his ministry would be. And today we are going to look at more of a theme

throughout the book of Jeremiah, the theme of covenant, particularly as it pertains to the covenant

between God and his people as a marriage ceremony, which they have broken. And Jeremiah is going

to talk about the consequences of that. So, Seth, what is a covenant?
