In this study, our teacher Dr. J. Vernon McGee takes us through some of the very dark days that Jeremiah experienced after the death of

King Josiah. But stay with us because the peace and joy Jeremiah finds in God's word,

despite his circumstances, will be an encouragement to all of us.

Before we begin, I want to share a couple of letters with you from listeners who have also

found peace in God's word, even in the middle of some very difficult situations.

Dorothy from Colorado writes this.

I retired two years ago and finances are tight.

I had to move in with my youngest son and his family. My only sanctuary here is in my room. In January, I had to buy a lock with a key and installed it myself because it's not safe for me outside this room. Drugs and other bad habits surround me. My family doesn't really

want me to be here though they need me. I am their link to God. I could go on

but suffice it to say that without you bringing God's word to me each day, I know that I would

be lost too.

I cling to you as a lifeline to my Savior.

Well Dorothy, I'm so glad that you're a part of our family and that you're right as well, that God's

word is a sanctuary, and Dr. McGee is going to tell us more about that today, so hang on.

Our last letter comes to us from Carolyn in North Carolina.

I know many of you can relate to her grief and she writes this.

I am a widow of less than nine months.

I find such refuge in God's word. At this time in our country I find it crucial
