It was around 830 at night in September 1990. When a married mom of three walked out of her

Lupa support group in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and headed into the parking lot to drive home.

Lying in wait for the victim was a shadowy figure dressed in camouflage fatigues, face covered with a black ski mask, and clutching an antique cult 45 revolver. They were hidden by the night.

The attacker approached and demanded the woman's purse. The victim tried to give the handbag to the assailant saying, take it, take it!

Killer grabbed the bag and then shot her at point blank range. The first bullet went in one arm, traversed the victim's chest, and landed in the other arm. As the victim fell to the ground, she rolled over onto her stomach. The killer then shot her again in the back.

But it was the first bullet that would prove to be fatal, and as 32-year-old Diane Hood was slowly bleeding out in the parking lot, her murderer ran off with the purse.

What only two people knew at that moment in time was that this was not a robbery gone wrong. It was premeditated murder. And within only two days, a 28-year-old married mother of two, named Jennifer Reale, was arrested and charged in the death of Diane Hood.

When this news hit the local community, everyone was shocked, an old friend of Jennifer's even blogged about it. She said, I couldn't accept, couldn't believe it, not Jenny, she was too smart, too nice, too normal.

To me, that's a really interesting way to put it, too normal.

What I think she meant by that was, to those that knew her, Jenny didn't show any outward signs that she was capable of plotting and killing someone. Everyone wanted to know to understand what motivated Jennifer Reale to kill Diane Hood.

The public and the media couldn't get enough of this story and quickly branded it the fatal attraction murder.

They liken Jennifer's actions to those of Glenn Close's character in the hugely popular movie Fatal Attraction.

In that film, a woman believes the one night stand she had with the married man, Michael Douglas, was more than what it was. She becomes vindictive and violent when he dumps her.

But I gotta tell you, in Jennifer's case, I think the press and the public got it wrong.

This case, and what was happening inside Jennifer Reale's mind the night she pulled the trigger, were not so obvious.

So, did Jennifer Reale commit murder because she wanted her competition eliminated, or was she out for some kind of revenge? Or was she manipulated into killing Diane Hood?
