music playing in the dining room and if it does have music in the dining room which kind of music is it? So today we are talking with Jen Ag, who is one of the most prominent restaurateurs in all of Canada.

She's pretty cool. She runs three restaurants in

Toronto, the most notable of which is the black hoof, a really, really hot

charcuttery and wine place and she's got like a rum bar and a jazz bar and she's working in a project in

Montreal and she also has like one of the most explosive and absolutely no

bullshit Twitter accounts in all of food media and I'm kind of

obsessed with her.

The first time I ever became aware of music in restaurants was in the late 90s when maybe it was the early 2000s

when that Nora Jones album came out?

Do you remember this? Come away with me, her like blockbuster debut song was everywhere.

The whole album was being played start to finish in every single restaurant ever. That and the Buena Vista Social Club soundtrack

didn't even have to be a Latin restaurant.

No, no, and it was like those two albums were like just like

excessively quirky enough that every like little like

Arrugala and Raspberry Vineagat Bistro was like this this is our freaking jam.

We're gonna just place on repeat for the next four years.

I'm also inclined to say that for a span of the 90s, maybe like 93 to 97,

there was some gypsy king's record that was played at like all over Spanish Italian

French didn't matter yeah I mean I think there's there's nothing a sort of middle of the

road not super exciting but like modestly ambitious white people restaurant

likes more than like slightly non white people music.
