Dr. Jalani Kaa but before I get to him I want to talk about something that's near and dear to my heart.

I want to talk about specifically the spike in food insecurity we've seen as a result of COVID and the role of the

Department of Agriculture in fighting hunger and the right person to lead the

Department of Agriculture in a Biden-Harrass administration.

by the end of this year, more than 50 million people could experience food insecurity

according to feeding America.

That's one in every six Americans,

and one in every four children in this country.

Almost a 50% increase over 2019.

A Northwestern University study in June found that food needs in the United States had doubled

and tripled for households with children explaining the long lines you're seeing

at food banks across the country that will only get worse as relief programs and

unemployment insurance expires at the end of the month. Now as we look at this

Biden Harris transition is worth noting that the Department of Agriculture is the tip of the spear

in fighting food hunger in the United States. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program,

or SNAP, or more colloquially understood as the Food Stamp Program is run by the Department of Ag.
